Through hands-on gardening experiences, we inspire curiosity about agriculture, forestry, ornamental nursery production, and related careers. Recognizing childhood obesity as a growing concern, we aim to empower children with practical skills and positive food choices while drawing them away from screens and social media to explore, learn, and thrive outdoors.

The Little Green Thumb Foundation (LGTF) was built from a passion for helping children better understand where food comes from and how healthy habits are formed. The program began through self-funded pilot initiatives designed to test and refine a hands-on classroom gardening and food literacy experience. These early efforts allowed LGTF to develop engaging educational materials, interactive garden kits, and scalable curriculum resources while demonstrating strong interest from students, teachers, and families.
To date, LGTF has grown entirely without grant funding. The foundation’s early development, pilot programs, curriculum creation, and outreach efforts have been supported through personal investment, grassroots support, and a commitment to building a program that is both meaningful and sustainable. This self-funded approach has allowed LGTF to establish a proven model with real classroom application before seeking outside funding support.
Now, LGTF is entering its next stage of growth with the goal of expanding access to more schools and communities nationwide. Through partnerships with donors, corporate sponsors, nonprofit organizations, and grantmakers, LGTF aims to provide more classrooms with garden-based educational experiences that promote food literacy, nutrition awareness, and hands-on learning.
